a card

Today was so far quite lovely weather. Cloudy and only 29 degrees Celsius... although still humid. But finally I could go for a walk with Yotam without feeling sticky and sweaty after two steps.

This week we will attend a wedding. It has been a while since the last wedding. I hope my husband will be up for dancing :o)
(After all he has not quite recovered from his Achilles tendon rupture.)
In Israel you mostly give money as a present (usually this will more or less cover the expenses of the wedding for the couple)- I like to draw nice cards so at least there is a tiny bit of a personal touch to it.

drawing for kindergarten

In the kindergarten of Neomi they hang on every birthday photos of the kid who has birthday. They want to make a new poster to hang those pictures and asked me if I could draw some kids holding frames (where they later can insert the photos).

Later I might be able to make a picture of the whole, finished "poster"...

We went to visit a friend of us earlier this week. He quit his job some time ago and has now his own small organic farm. You can order baskets and you will get whatever vegetables are at this point ready. We bought a big family basket full of delicious goods: pumpkin, tomatoes, corn, beans, melon, fennel, potatoes, cucumbers, couchettes, leek, reed beet and more...

I was looking for a recipe with pumpkin and found these tarteletts by "foto e fornelli".
Try them- they are delicious. I also made a version with tomatoes.

I could not resist another recipe after discovering the blog of "joy the baker".
Cinnamon Sugar Pull-apart Bread
Give it a try to- you won't regret...

handmade present

Thanks to my little sister- she made this beautiful skirt for Neomi. Red with white dots (hard to see in the pictures) and of course it had to swing nicely- otherwise Neomi won't wear it :o)

summer time

It's hot...
I just hate summer here in Israel and now even more.. breastfeeding and carrying a baby does not help much.
I am trying to come up with some activities for the girls for inside (when it is getting unbearable outside) and for outside (well- this has to have a connection with water to cool down)...

The other day I did some drawing with crayons with Neomi while Helen and Yotam were napping. It's something I remembered that I loved doing as a kid myself:

fill an area with colours so that no white of the paper is showing anymore
draw with black crayon all over the coloured area and then you can scratch away the black colour with a toothpick (or a pencil/ match...)
Another thing we did was ice boats- it did not work out that well- the ice-cube frame was too small- you should use something bigger if you want to try this- plastic cups, cupcake frames...

place things inside frames- we used smurfs, playmobile, lego... you can also add sails. Fill the frames with water and place in the freezer until the water is frozen.
we placed the ice boats in our kids pool. The small ones sunk fast (not enough ice), the bigger ones floated for a while. Because of the heat the ice melted pretty fast.
There are many instructions on the internet to be found. You could also add colour (since we floated them in our pool I did not add coulour). I will try it again with bigger frames.
